Aneutronic Fusion: Addressing Regulatory Challenges and Reducing Risks
One of the key advantages of Kronos Fusion Energy’s proprietary aneutronic fusion technology is the significant reduction in regulatory hurdles compared to traditional nuclear reactors. In traditional nuclear energy, the production of neutrons results in radioactive byproducts, including tritium, which poses long-term environmental risks and the potential for nuclear weaponization.
By contrast, aneutronic fusion reactors, like those developed by Kronos, produce zero neutrons during their fusion process. The absence of neutrons eliminates the risk of nuclear weaponization and drastically reduces the creation of radioactive waste. Tritium, a common fuel used in many fusion reactors, is entirely absent from Kronos Fusion Energy’s fuel composition, further reducing the regulatory complexities associated with radioactive materials. These characteristics provide a clear regulatory path forward, allowing Kronos Fusion Energy to accelerate the deployment of its fusion generators globally.
